PF cadres have ‘overthrown’ state police in providing security at the Confederation of African Football – CAF under 20 tournament which kicked off yesterday, all because of the lucrative K300 and K1,100 per day allowances.
Police and FAZ sources have told the Watchdog that initially, all the policemen who were tasked to provide security were called for the briefing at Heroes stadium, during which they were told that they would be getting K300 per day ordinary security and K1,100 for VIP 24 hour protection and were paid the initial amounts after the briefing but were shocked that later some were removed and some PF cadres took their slots as ‘special security’. They complained that FAZ president Andrew Kamanga is compromising security by fusing cadres into the system.
“We were initially told that the special security is because of the opening ceremony by the President but we now have information that its permanent and some of our colleagues have since been scrapped from the list, which is now being controlled by a PF thug called Banda and Kennedy Kamba the Lusaka province youth chairman with blessings of home affairs minister Steven Kampyongo,” said one policeman. Kampyongo is also the chairman of the PF militia that is responsible for causing mayhem to opponents and is using the tournament to pay his thugs.
From the 310 shortlisted police officers and budgeted for to cater for Lusaka, only 150 are trained officers and the rest are PF cadres, a situation which the officers said was risky for a tournament of this magnitude.
