PF cadres with charcoal burners attacking people in Mfubu ranch

FARMERS in Mfubu ranch in Kitwe have alleged that charcoal burners are working in collaboration with Patriotic Front (PF) cadres in attacking, murdering and grabbing land from people in the area.

And Francis Wasamunu, who is a farmer in the area and a retired Kitwe City Council (KCC) Public Relations Manager has challenged the Zambia Police to arrest Mr Musukwa for allegedly inciting charcoal burners who later axed to death former Wusakile MP Barnabas Chella.

Francis Wasamunu, who is a farmer in the area and a retired Kitwe City Council (KCC) Public Relations Manager told the Zambian Watch Dog in Kitwe that Mfubu ranch had become more dangerous than before because charcoal burners were now working with PF cadres in  terrorizing people in the area.

Wasamunu said PF Wusakile constituency chairman George Chilufya three weeks ago led a group of more than 20 armed charcoal burners and PF cadres at his farm and told him to stop coming to his farm because it had now become the farm for PF cadres.

“I would have been the first person to be murdered before Mr Chella was axed to death by charcoal burners. Three weeks ago, i went to the farm where more than 20 PF cadres and charcoal burners attacked me. They were being led by Mr George Chilufya, who is PF Wusakile constituency chairman.

“I told them that i had a title deed to the  farm, but they rubbished it, saying it was a forged thing. When i asked them if they had title deeds themselves, they said each of them present at that farm was a title deed and so i should not waist time asking them.

“So for fear of being axed or hacked to death, i jumped into the vehicle. After i jumped into the vehicle, they wanted to burn the vehicle, but i managed to run for my life,” Mr Wasamunu said.

He said he reported the matter at Kitwe Central Police where he was told that he should look for fuel because the vehicle had no fuel, but after finding money for fuel, he was told the vehicle had gone to Ndola.

“I reported the matter to Kitwe Central Police, but they told me to go and look for fuel to put in the vehicle. After i came back with the money for fuel, i was told that the vehicle which was supposed to be used had gone to Ndola, ” Mr Wasamunu said.

And Mr Wasamunu has said PF Wusakile MP Richard Musukwa should be arrested for causing death through his careless talk that incited charcoal burners to go and murder Mr Chella by axing him to death at his farm on September 5, 2013.

He challenged the Zambia Police to arrest Mr Musukwa for allegedly inciting charcoal burners who later axed to death former Wusakile MP Barnabas Chella.

Mr Wasamunu said Mr Musukwa’s address to the charcoal burners two weeks ago, was in bad taste because he told them that the land in Mfubu ranch belonged to them and so they should defend and protect themselves.
“Mr Musukwa told the charcoal burners that Mfubu ranch belonged to them and so they should defend and protect themselves. He actually told them  defend and protect themselves and move in groups. So what does it mean?

“So the Zambia Police should prove that they are non-partisan law enforcement officers by arresting Mr Musukwa for inciting charcoal burners who axed to death Mr Chella. In Egypt, President Mursi was charged and disposed from power for inciting violence, now who is Musukwa that he can’t be arrested for inciting violence,’ Mr Wasamunu said.
Mr Wasamunu said politicians should desist from making careless statements that could lead to the death of a person like it had happened where Mr Chella was brutally murdered by charcoal burners who were allegedly incited by Mr Musukwa.
He said the people who murdered Mr Chella were not squatters or peasant farmers,  but were charcoal burners who were coming from Mulenga, Zamtan and Luangwa townships.
He said there were no squatters or peasant farmers in the area, but there were just charcoal burners who were coming to cut trees for charcoal burning in the area.
“Those people Musukwa addressed do not live there, but are just charcoal burners, am now challenging  him to get the press, the police and other stakeholders to go on a conducted tour in Mfubu ranch to find out if those people he addressed live there or they are charcoal burners from other areas
“I have been conducting elections for more than 20 years at the KCC and there were no people who were coming from Mufubu ranch to vote. Even himself Musukwa, when he was campaigning, he didn’t go in  Mfubu ranch to campaign because there were no people to campaign to. but now, he is telling charcoal burners to defend themselves from farmers, what does it mean? He said.
