Kabwe PF councilor in court for illegal land allocation, but UPND demands for council dissolution

PF councilor for Waya ward in Kabwe central constituency Edward Lungu today appeared in court for illegal land allocation, the civic leader has since been suspended from the council but UPND says Lungu is not the only corrupt councilor and has called for a complete overhaul of the council.

Lungu who was last year attacked and had his leg amputated by suspected PF thugs after a sour land deal was arrested last month and today appeared before the Kabwe magistrate court for corruption and illegal land selling.

In reaction to Lungu’s suspension, UPND central province youth chairman Milner Mwanakampwe said the arrest of Phiri has vindicated his party’s earlier stance that FPF councilors in the municipality were a bunch of corrupt thugs. Mwanakampwe urged the investigative wings not only to end with Phiri but sweep the entire council clean. He reiterated his call that there were many other councilors who have been illegally sharing land with senior government officials. The UPND has since demanded for the dissolution of the entire council to safeguard public interest.

Last year the Anti Corruption Commission report named over 10 councilors as having been involved in illegal land allocation but ailing president Michael Sata shielded the thugs and instead fired Town clerk Mukamambo Mbaimbai and Director of Planning Verenacio Tembo. Bwacha MP Sydney Mushanga and his Kabwe central counterpart James Kapyanga have also been implicated in the deals.
