PF decides to demolish cabinet offices and other buildings

The PF regime has decided to demolish government buildings in Ridgeway.
The PF cabinet says it will construct ultra-modern office blocks to be called Jubilee City.
These buildings include most ministries, Cabinet office, Police Headquarters, OP headquarters and other buildings, ministry of Foreign affairs and probably embassies.
Chief PF regime spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili announced this in a statement yesterday.
“Cabinet approved the demolition of old Government Offices around the Government area in order to facilitate the construction of ultra-modern office blocks, a five-star hotel, shopping mall and a car park through a public private partnership,” Mr Kambwili said.
He said the financial resources required for the project would be raised by the private sector, while Government will provide land as its initial investment.
This is a lie and does not even make sense. Those buildings belong to government and it is government that will pay for the construction through borrowing, of course. It is just like a person building a house; they hire someone else but provide land and money for the material. If the private sector will pay for the constriction, then the buildings will belong to them and government will be renting.
Chishima said Government owns 13 office blocks in the Ridgeway area, most of which were constructed prior to or a few years after independence.
But State House was constructed before Independence meaning it should be the first to be razed.
“Most of these buildings have outlived their lifespan and thus pose a danger to the occupants. In addition, some of the buildings are made of fabricated material and cannot be re-modelled to improve their outlook and safety standards,” he said
Mr Kambwili said the Ridgeway area is a prime location and, therefore, requires modern infrastructure which will not only contribute to availability of modern office accommodation but also improve on the capital’s sky-line.
This is lack of proper thinking. Those buildings are just okay and can be used for other purposes. If the PF wants to build another city, there is enough land along Kafue Road. They should preserve those building. This is just another plot to steal huge sums of money from the public.
