Ruling Patriotic Front(PF) cadre Ephraim Shakafuswa is facing arrest following his action to fraudulent misrepresent the party.
Shakafuswa registered a mass sms short code *373# that solicited for members of the public to register, give personal details and voter information to a submitted questionnaire.
This was purportedly being done on behalf of the Patriotic Front.
This drew immediate outrage from members of the Opposition.
Opposition commentators called it an act or program to rig the 2021 election.
This prompted PF Media Director, Sunday Chanda to disown the activity and said no authority in the party sanctioned any e-registration of its members or from the members of the public.
He also said the matter has since been reported to the Police and ZICTA.
Shakafuswa has since claimed that as a business consultant, he was trying out a new product to mobilize party members.
MTN have since disabled the short code.
Authorities (ZICTA and Police) are now interested to establish how Shakafuswa registered and paid for the short code of the ruling party without obtaining express authority from party President, Edgar Lungu or the Secretary General, Davies Mwila.
The cost of the short code is K42,000.00.
Below is the exchange of statements;
URGENT: ATTENTION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
20th October 2019
The Patriotic Front (PF) has received queries from unsuspecting members of the public regarding the **373#* shortcode running on MTN purporting to be collecting data on behalf of the ruling Party. The PF is ruling no such program whatsoever.
Please note that the shortcode has nothing to do with the Patriotic Front in anyway.
It is aimed at collecting personal information from unsuspecting members of the public.
The matter has since been reported to the relevant authorities.
Please take this as official notification.

Ephraim Shakafuswa responded;
*373# is my membership solution which was in test mode and activated for demonstration purposes to a closed group.
If it gets to be sanctioned, it will definitely be done in public and in front of cameras.
