PF govt restricts haulage of maize, mealie meal from 06 to 18 hours

The outgoing PF government has with immediate effect restricted the transportation of maize and mealie meal from 06 to 1800 hours.
Agriculture Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa has told the PF controlled ZNBC that any maize or mealie meal which will be transported outside the stipulated time will be seized.
Mr Shawa has since appealed to the public to report any ‘suspicious’ transportation of maize and mealie meal, bulk buying and hoarding of the commodity.
He claimed that the move is aimed at maintaining food security in the wake of the exploitation of the commodity by ‘unscrupulous’ individuals.
Mr Shawa however said government will monitor export of maize under the existing contracts. (They are still exporting maize)
It is not clear how the PF government is expecting traders to move meali meal to remote places like Shangombo within the stipulated time of 06 to 18 hours.
Should transporters park their trucks on the road sides after 18 hours they will definitely be arrested by Frank Bwalya’s cadres and the PF police and be charged with attempting to ‘smuggle’ the commodity.
On Friday the confused former Catholic Priest Frank Chiyabi Bwalya was in Kitwe hunting for trucks carrying maize or meali meal.
