PF has no moral right to call for suspension of UPND MPs- Katuka

The UPND has charged that the conspiracy by PF members of parliament to make the speaker suspend UPND MPs for a year shows how morally decayed Edgar Lungu’s government is.
UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka has charged that it is clear from the audio recording of PF MPs plans to compel Speaker Patrick Matibini to suspend UPND MPs that the PF has destroyed the Judiciary, Electoral Commission of Zambia, the Legislature and other key institutions of governance in the country.
Katuka said this will put to test the objectivity and impartiality of the Speaker and will show if he is controlled by those in power or by the constitution.
He stressed that the PF have no moral right to preach about respect for the constitution in this country because they have breached the constitution on many occasions.
‘To start with, these are the same MPs who illegally stayed and occupied ministerial positions when parliament was dissolved and there is a ruling to that effect,’ Katuka said.
Katuka has further pointed out that the nation was well aware of how Edgar Lungu has abrogated the constitution on several occasions including when he refused to step aside and hand over power to the Speaker of the National Assembly when the petition was lodged in.
He said if there is any punishment to be meted out it must start with the PF MPs who illegally held to their ministerial positions and have to date refused to refund the money they got as ordered by the Constitutional Court.
Katuka noted that the UPND will have no issues in recognising anyone who will be declared the winner of last year’s elections once the petition is heard.
A secret audio recording has exposed PF MPs in a caucus agreeing on what Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini should do to the UPND MPs who shunned President Lungu’s national address last week.
