After back-peddling briefly on the Electricity tariffs, the PF government has now increased Water Tariffs by close to 100 percent.
The National Water and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) says the adjustments will be with effect from February 1,2016. According to A Press placement in the Post Newspaper of Thursday January 14, 2016 by the Western Water and Sewerage Company, domestic tariffs have been adjusted from K2.50 to K3.30 for those who consume between 0 and 6 m3 while those who consume between 6 and 15 will now pay K4.75 from K3.60 per m3.
Commercial tariffs have been revised from K4.80 to K6.43 for those consuming from 10 to 60 m3. NWASCO has also increased charges for Government schools, hospitals and NGO’s according to the statement. It has also approved increases in sewerage charges like Sewer unblocking, hire of vacuum tanker, water bowser, leak detection and security fees for those seeking connection.
