The ruling PF in Lusaka says it is malicious for the opposition leaders to claim that president Michael Charles Katongo Mwango Chilufya Sata was unwell.
Lusaka province PF Youth Chairman Kennedy Nkamba told the media that Mr. Sata has been in his office even this morning discharging national duties and alleviating the poverty among Zambians.
“Even as I am speaking now, the president is in his office discharging his duties. I am not speaking from without,” Mr. Nkamba said.
He urged the opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and MMD president Nevers Mumba to concentrate on mobilising and re-organising their parties.
“Mr. Sata is busy in his office right now so that people in Siangombo, Kaputa, Monze can have a better life,” Nkamba said.
Yesterday, MMD president Nevers Mumba was quoted as saying Mr. Sata’s health was a source of concern and should rest.
UPND president Hakainde Hichilema called on all Zambians to pray for the good health of Mr. Sata.
Mr. Hichilema told said his party has particularly urged people in the country to pray for the Head of State because it does not take pleasure in his falling sick.
He says the UPND does not also think that it is right for anyone to speak ill of President Sata when is believed to be unwell.
The UPND leader said it is important that all political leaders are in good health as they debate and compete on bring out the best policies that will improve people’s lives.
The alleged failure by Mr. Sata to fully officiate at this year’s Labour Day and African Freedom Day commemorations has caused a lot of speculation that he may be unwell and needed prayers.
Yesterday, Chief Government spokesperson, who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister, Joseph Katema dismissed as politicking suggestions that President Sata failed to officiate at this year’s Labour Day and African Freedom Day celebrations because he is unwell.
Youth and Sport Minister Chishimba Kambwili also observed that there is nothing special about President Sata’s falling sick as sickness can befall in anyone.
Without making any reference to Wynter Kabimba who is in campaign gear, Mr. Kambwili said it was unfortunate that some political parties have already started campaigning for presidency in view of the alleged falling sick of President Sata.
