President Edgar Lungu and his PF advisors are working out a scheme to drag Chongwe MP Sylvia Masebo’s court cases and later convict her shortly before filing in of nomination papers for the 2016 elections so as to block her from contesting her seat.
Masebo who was earlier acquitted of abuse of office charges levelled against her has been brought back to court over the same case, with more witnesses created to fabricate evidence against her. One of the fake witnesses is Charity Mwansa whose evidence in court has differed from what she earlier told the tribunal.
Masebo has also been slapped with a charge of unlawful procession, along with some other UPND supporters who escorted her to court during one of her court appearances.
But according to the scheme unearthed by the Zambian Watchdog, Lungu and other PF planners have corrupted some court officials so that Masebo will be convicted and sent to jail shortly before filing in of her nomination papers. With that conviction, the Chongwe law maker will be kept away from campaigns because the PF feel that she is a very influential campaigner who would help in mobilising UPND votes. She is also being punished because of her decision to support UPND president Hakainde Hichilema during the January 2015 Presidential elections.
Should the scheme fail, PF of course with the advice of Rupiah Banda also intend to heavily fund her competitor in Chongwe just to ensure that she loses the seat.
