Why are National Day of Prayers under Lungu organised by the same Group? It is not wrong to ask. It is wrong not to ask when not clear. First of all it is important to note that it is not only under President Edgar Lungu that National Day of Prayers have been called. The prayers have been called under President Kaunda, Chiluba, Mwanawasa, Rupiah Banda and Michael Sata. In 1991, a National Day of prayers was called at the Cathedral of The Holy Cross at which then President Kaunda and then opposition leader Fredrick Chiluba met face to face.
The question again is who organised this day? The organisers consisted of all church mother bodies, the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) representing the Catholics, the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) representing protestant churches like the Reformed Church, the Anglican church, the Presbyterian, the Baptists and so forth. Late Reverend Foston Sakala from the Reformed Church who later became the first President of the Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) was one of the organisers. We had similar arrangements under Chiluba, Mwanawasa and Rupiah Banda but there were very few questions asked over organisers. It was all encompassing.
It is however saddening that under President Lungu, the National Day of Prayers organisation are a preserve of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) under Pukuta Mwanza and Joshua Banda. Where are the Catholics? Where are the Baptists, where are the Reformed? Where are the Presbyterians? Does it mean only the evangelicals are Christians? This development has led to the eroding of confidence in the day of prayers hence others shunning the event. More disturbing is the fact that most if not all organisers of the National Day of Prayers happen to belong to the Christians for Lungu PF campaign team. This makes the whole day of prayer a partisan grouping mocking God. Even the organising committee of the construction of the National House of Prayers consists only of evangelicals. Does it mean that the National House of Prayer will only be for evangelicals? It is important that the organisers search their souls before they condemn those who have chosen not to attend.
It will not do for them to sponsor people on radio like some Reverend Moses Lungu who was on ZNBC Radio this morning condemning those who will not attend. By the way, where is Reverend Moses Lungu’s Evangelical Alliance International Church that he claims to Pastor? Moses is ever at Lamimosa at Arcades begging for a Cup of Coffee if not at Rapsody’s quaffing Red Wine. What time does he Pastor his Church? All this erodes the integrity of the event. Who does not know Bishop Joshua Banda, Pukuta Mwanza and Peter Ndhlovu of BIGOCA as Rupiah Banda’s boys. Has not Rupiah their master taken sides in this election? The Bible teaches us not to mock God.
The National Day of Prayers are organised for political expediency by people under the Christian for Lungu campaign team. God’s curse shall be upon those who mock him. It will not bé wrong to state that the organisers are not men and women of God but men and women of Gold. They are after money.
