The bankrupt PF government has abandoned almost all the major construction project especially roads, schools, hospitals and most of the contractors have since demobilised their equipment.
In Lusaka alone, Burma and Chilumbulu Road dual carriageway construction had stalled with all the contractors pulling their equipment as they have not been paid.
The expansion of the Lusaka International Airport has equally been abandoned while the Chalimbana University in Chongwe has also stalled.
And UTH Acting Senior Medical Superintendent Laston Chikoya disclosed that funding from Government has stopped thereby slowing down the modernization project at the country’s largest referral health centre.
Dr Chikoya revealed this when an inspector from State House Lucky Mulusa visited the UTH on Wednesday.
US$ 29 million was allocated for the modernization of UTH from the 750 million US dollar Euro bond to transform the hospital into a new one-stop centre and ultra-modern adult medical emergency unit by demolishing the filter clinic.
Abandoned projects include Mumbwa Road which has stalled as, for more than a year now, no work has been done between Zamanita and Nyangu Filling Station to expand the road to four lanes.
The Great East Road rehabilitation has also stalled. The contractor has stopped working with sections of the road having been removed but due to lack of funding materials have not been source to resurface. The section between Puma Filling Station to the Tank in Chelstone is one example..
