PF police now intimidating judges over Post closure

PLAIN clothes police officers yesterday interrogated Tax Appeals Tribunal Registrar Chola Shapi Mutambo shortly before the inter partes hearing between ZRA and Post Newspapers Limited.

The interrogation took almost an hour as the two police officers only came out of her office at 11:45 hours.

This delayed the tribunal sitting which was supposed to start at 11:00 hours.

Mutambo on Monday issued an ex-parte order that instructed ZRA to hand back the seized properties to The Post.

The police officers who interrogated Mutambo are the same officers who arrested Post editor-in-chief Fred M’membe, his wife Mutinta and deputy managing editor Joseph Mwenda.

M’membe, Mutinta and Mwenda are jointly charged for the offence of criminal trespass and “uttering a forged document in the name of ex-parte order allegedly issued by the Revenue Appeals Tribunal, when in fact not”.

The three have been released on police bond and are expected to appear in court next week.
