UPND on the Copperbelt has demanded for the immediate arrest of PF thugs who assaulted and publicly undressed the party’s Buntungwa chairlady Majory Mulenga. Provincial chairman Elisha Matambo has also demanded that police gets rid of PF cadres masquerading as policemen.
Mulenga was assaulted and stripped naked on Wednesday and reported the matter to Kambilombilo police post but a policeman named Chungu hid her medical report in an attempt to shield the well known assailants.
Matambo has given the police 24 hours in which to arrest the group leader known as Kent. He says the Inspector General of police Stella Libongani and her Copperbelt commissioner Joyce Kasosa must be seen to be protecting fellow women.
The visibly annoyed Matambo warned that UPND’s silence should not be misconstrued for weakness and if police do not protect his members he will instruct them to defend themselves and even hit back harder because they had the capacity to do that.
And former PF members who recently defected to the UPND have had their properties in Buntungwa ward demolished without any reasons. The affected victims have since threatened legal action.
The Buntungwa ward by election takes place on 19th August and PF has been worried about the continued loss of popularity on the Copperbelt which has seen the ruling party lose a parliamentary seat and some local government seats to the UPND.
