PF to float Kabimba for speaker

The PF government plans to float Wynter kabimba as Speaker of the National Assembly, informed sources have disclosed.

And MMD Chipata Central MP Mtolo Phiri is said to be receiving death threats for refusing to resign.

Sources close to Mtolo Phiri say he is under extreme pressure to resign and create a bye-election so that PF’s Lameck Mangani can win.

Sources say Phiri is being intimidated just the way Chongwe’ Japhen Mwakalombe was intimidated to quit and give way for Sylivia Masebo when a bye-election is called.

Phiri won the seat during the general elections by polling 13,763 votes against Mangani of the PF who got 10,521 votes.

On the position of the speaker, the government is determined to install Kabimba as speaker at all costs.

Kabimba is the Secretary General of the ruling party, PF.

With 60 elected MPs and 8 nominated, the ruling party still has less MPs compared to the combined numbers of the opposition.

The government has poached a few MPs from the MMD but they are still less than the opposition.

Government sources say parliament will not be opened until the PF is sure that they have enough MPs on their side to vote for Speaker so they are targeting MMD MPs.

The first item when parliament opens is to elect a speaker.
