Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Kennedy Sakeni has called for the revival of local language newspapers.
Mr. Sakeni expressed disappointment that for the past one year, nothing has been done by the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) printing press at mass media offices to publish local language newspapers.
He said this when he met journalists from different media institutions in Mansa recently.
Mr. Sakeni emphasised the need to resume production of local language newspapers which will be a pilot project while the ministry prepares to construct printing press infrastructure in Mongu, Choma and Solwezi.
In another development, Mr. Sakeni has noted that tourism in Luapula province has not been marketed sufficiently despite the region being endowed with a number of tourist attractions.
He said there was need to open a tourism office in Luapula province that will help to market the area.
Mr. Sakeni has since called on local and foreign investors to invest in the tourism industry.
The minister was recently on a familiarisation tour of media institutions in Northern and Luapula provinces where he visited ZANIS offices, ZNBC transmitters and community radio stations.
