Malambo PF parliamentary candidate Peter Shuma who charges residents between K10 and K20 for drawing water from a borehole sunk at his house has been described as selfish capitalist who doesn’t deserve a vote.
Some parts around Mfuwe are hit with water shortages and while UPND’s Peter Phiri extends his borehole at his business premises to the community, Shuma charges all residents for drawing water from his borehole. He says the charges are for maintenance but residents say that he is just a selfish capitalist.
“He is merely a selfish capitalist, we draw water from Mr. Phiri and don’t pay anything but him charges everyone K10 to K20 per month and claims that it is for the maintenance. Poverty levels are very high here but he has no conscience and preying on us, he doesn’t deserve our vote,” a resident told our roving reporter.
Lack of development
Malambo constituency in Eastern province is one of the least developed areas, with children as young as ten years old involved in stone crushing while Mfuwe has completely no market in spite of hosting the lucrative South Luangwa national park.
And interesting enough, this is where the Chichele Presidential lodge where all Presidents of Zambia have taken holidays is located. With government commitment to develop the area, Mfuwe can be a nice place to live in because of its ready market to many visiting tourists
