Un planned settlement, and without the Council approval at first instance. Please don’t the PF government, let us blame ourselves, because whenever we are advised to,we just continue building.

Ever heard of climate change? No amount of drainage can cope up with the abnormal rains the world is receiving today. Just recently houses were submerged in the Philippines, bridges were washed away in South Africa, Super storm Sandy ravaged the eastern coast of the USA. I never heard Obama being blamed for the floods by the Republicans and instead the discussion was on what is causing the abnormal climate. Surely there must be some cause and effect on the enormous amount of carbon dioxide we are discharging into the atmosphere mostly by China and America. Unless there is a concerted effort by the world to reduce green house gases abnormal floods will be there whichever party is in power.

I never heard Zuma being blamed by the DA nor Obama being blamed for the floods by the Republicans and instead the discussion was on what is causing the abnormal climate. In fact he would have lost the elections had the storm been attributed to him. This issue of floods originated from MMD and PF will work hard to collect it come next rain season no floods will be recorded. There was poor planning of most Lusaka residential areas and to that Lusaka has a type of rock which is very bad and needs explosives to break which made it difficulty for the colonial governments( both MMD and UNIP ) to construct as explosives where strictly controlled specifically for the mines

Imwe ba fyatile, are you trying to tell us PF are the ones who have blocked the drainage system? It makes no sense for certain foolish people to attribute floods to PF. Are you trying to say mu UNIP namu MMD there where no floods???? The cry should be to urge the current government to correct the situation and not to site them as the cause…..My God, read your own posts over and over again, and try to digest your own comments. Total kak! Criticism is necessary but let it be positive and productive. An innocent picture informing the nation about something real should be infested with stinking hatred comments and posts???? Iyo kwena…..HATRED will make some of you drown in your own shit, kabili ninshi flood naingila mutumayanda twenu and you are too bitter to just report to the relevant authorities normally, so kunwinafye kubupuba. ATAH! Anyway, if the floods have been brought by PF, get used to it coz you have another 3 years to oar, swim or drown…..PABWATO!

I see most of the bloggers on this site are anti PF… PF made your work easier by defeating MMD. Now what remains for you is to take ’em out in 2016. The more you blow your vuvuzelas the more they wake up and will strategise and retain power in 2016.

Mirror image guys, simple science or basic physics, that picture is from Zambia, the only this we need to agree upon is that we need a major drainage system and road construction to fix the bad city planning of the yester years, let stop pointing fingers!!

So if they ve been there alwaz does that give a sense living it. Do you know the people of misisi, kanyama, chawama, matero and those of them that live in limbo squalor feel about or live up to such conditions. All we are asking for the leadership to serve as per their promises.

You cannot do anything about the floods in Kanyama or Misisi. Those peeople settled in an area with a lot of lime stone which by nature should dissolve in the rainy season and as a result build craters. It will be very expensive to move these people to a different location but the problem should have been looked at during Kaundas era. The population then was small and we always claim that the economy was doing great. But try and talk to these people about relocating and you will be suprised to learn that most of them dont wan to move out.

I wonder if it is like some parts of Louisiana in the U.S.; the land naturally floods due to the low elevation and presence of the Mississippi River, Gulf Coast and seasonal hurricanes, but the levees have caused some areas to flood more (while protecting other areas where wealthier people live). The government needs to look at developing drainage systems for these areas, and to ensure that new structures and land changes do not worsen the problem. Many people don’t want to move out because it is cheaper and more convenient to live in Kanyama and Misisi, and they know that any resettlement projects will put them far outside the city, when many of them have never learned how to farm. It’s a tricky issue, and government needs to talk to the residents to promote their well-being.
