With barely a week to go before elections, the ruling party PF has intensified its campaign of violence against leading opposition supporters.
Three weeks ago PF cadres almost caused a helicopter carrying former deputy Speaker Mutale Nalumango, former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa and two MPs Felix Mutati and Patrick Mucheleka to crash in Shiwanngu after they attacked it when it was about to land.
Last week, PF cadres attacked UPND candidate Hakainde Hichilema’s entourage at Mongu airport leaving one UPND official half-dead. The same period, PF cadres attacked UPND supporters in Sinda Eastern province leaving two in hospital.
Last Saturday, the UPND held a huge rally in Mtendere but PF cadres waylaid some UPND supporters at City Market and hacked them with pangas. So far no one has been arrested even though the assailants are well know. See photos below:
