Pilot retrieved from Zambezi river plane crash as commandos continue search

Zambia Army commandos have so far retrieved the body a pilot of the light private plane carrying a white couple that plunged into Zambezi River in Zambezi district yesterday.

Zambezi District Commissioner, Lawrence Kayumba told ZANIS in a telephone interview from Zambezi that the body of the pilot was retrieved around 20:20 hours.

Mr Kayumba said the commandos had to force break windows of the plane to get access into the plane.

By press time the commandos had gone back down the waters to retrieve the other body of the female that is still under water.

Officials in the district were by press time still awaiting Zambia Army Commandos to assist in the rescue efforts.

The plane crashed after hitting into a Zesco pylon transmitting power across Zambezi River to Senior Chief Ndungu’s palace.

Mr Kayumba said the plane crashed around 16:00 hours on its way from
Chavuma back to Chitokoloki Mission Hospital in Zambezi.
