Police arrest 66-year old sick UPND official in connection with Rufunsa death of PF cadre

UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson, Adrian Bauleni, has been picked up by police in connection with the death of a PF cadre who died following violence in the just ended Rufunsa local government by-election.

Zambia Police Service Assistant Public Relations Officer Esther Mwata-Katongo told Muvi TV news in a telephone interview that 66 year old Ambassador Bauleni has since been detained at Lusaka Central Police as investigations are still going on.

Ms. Mwata-Katongo also confirmed that a search was conducted at the party campaign centre in Lusaka Libala Township over the same case.

And UPND lawyer Martha Mushipe says the detention is not justifiable because Ambassador Bauleni was in hospital at the time of the incident.

Crispin Menyani Zulu was allegedly killed by a combined team of opposition party cadres in election violence in Rufunsa Constituency during the local government by-election.

President Michael Sata condemned the death and directed the Police to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

Mr. Zulu was buried on Saturday at Lusaka’s Old Leopards Hill Cemetery.
