Police arrest Barotse activist in Livingstone for possession of ‘seditious’ materials

The Zambia Police has arrested a Barotseland activist in Livingstone for possession of ‘seditious’ materials relating to Barotseland.

The activist called Kaingu was picked from his house in Dambwa on Monday 24th August by police officers who entered the house by force and carried out a search despite having no search warrant.

The search which lasted several hours only yielded articles and documents downloaded from online publications among them one article carried by the Zambian Watchdog on the alleged meeting between the Litunga, President Lungu and former Presidents Rupiah Banda and Kenneth Kaunda.

It is not yet clear when Kaingu will appear in court.

Currently three youths among them Nayoto Mweenda who was the Editor for Barotse Post are serving three year jail sentences for publication of ‘false and alarming’ news.
