Police arrest Changala, charge him for keeping deworming tablets

Zambian security personnel have detained civil rights activists Brebner Changala and his sister over the deworming tablets they found in his house during last week’s early morning raid at his house.

Mr. Changala’s lawyer Gilbert Phiri confirmed that Mr. Changala has been detained at Ridgeway Police post while the sister is at Woodlands police station.

The security personnel picked-up Mr. Changala this afternoon and drove all the way to Kabwe where the sister stays and brought them back together to Drug Enforcement Commission offices where he was interrogated and arrested over the deworming tablets belonging to his sister.

Last week, a combined team of Zambian security services raided Mr. Changala’s house in the early hours and searched his house and office looking for anything they could find to incriminate him.

They collected documents, computers, and other items, and after failing to come up with something serious, they decided to confine him in cells over deworming tablets belonging to his sister.

Mr. Changala has been a fierce critic of ailing dictator president Michael Sata’s poor governance record and has vowed never to stop commenting despite what he is going through.
