Police arrest couple for being in possession of meali meal

A Chililabombwe businessman has been arrested in Kitwe after a truck transporting his 450 bags of meali meal to Chililabombwe was impounded by the police.
Danny Silungwe was arrested together with his wife despite producing his trading licence proving that he owns a shop in Chililabombwe where they were taking the Mealie Meal.
The police and Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe however insisted that the consignment was meant for reselling at a higher price or smuggling to Congo DR. Resselling of any commodity is not a crime.
The couple has been charged with ‘failing to account for property suspected to have been stolen.’
