After beating, teargassing and arresting students at the Copperbelt University and beating lecturers at the Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies, the government has now directed the police to attack students at the University of Zambia.
At the centre of all this confusion is the failure by the government to pay lecturers and their students salaries and allowances. Meanwhile, president Edgar Lungu will shortly, using tax payers money, carry a huge delegation of officials and party cadres to go and get a hug from the Pope in Rome and backbite Catholic Bishops.
The UNZA students, just like their counterparts in Kitwe have been demanding their meagre allowances from last December. At CBU, more than 25 students have been arrested and taken to Kanfinsa prison after police refused to release them on bail. Others are detained in police detention centres within Kitwe.
