A UPND councillor and three community leaders in Itezhi tezhi district have been tied up by police for organising and attending a meeting.
UPND Itumbi ward councilor and four community leaders were arrested on Wednesday for having a developmental meeting which was aimed at discussing the development of the ward.
Both police and party officials have confirmed the development.
The four who are currently detained in police custody are reported to have been brutally beaten by the police and are still handcuffed since Wednesday.
Relatives who took food to the detained and tied up leaders confirmed said they found their relatives in handcuffs like criminals and that they also eat the food while in handcuffs.
The officer in charge of the police station where the four are tied claimed that police arrested the four following instructions from his superior the central province police commissioner.
The police are also reported to have been grabbing UPND chitenge materials and T-shirts from anyone who is seen putting it on.
