A confrontation nearly ensued Monday morning at Kabwata Police Station involving cadres and Police officers when UPND President Hakainde Hichilema appeared at the station for questioning.
The UPND Leader was appearing at Kabwata Police Station for questioning for breach of the Public Order Act.
Mr. Hichilema who arrived at the Police station at exactly 10:00 hours was accompanied by lawyers Jackie Mwiimbu, Martha Mushipe and some senior party officials.
It took almost 30 minutes for Mr. Hichilema to enter the Police station for questioning because the cadres insisted on accompanying their leader the move which angered the Police.
And speaking to journalists shortly after the interrogation, Mr.Hichilema’s Lawyer Jackie Mwiimbu said the Police and the UPND officials had a cordial engagement.
Mr. Mwiimbu says the UPND Leader was not having political meetings for him to notify the Police but was merely conducting community tours.
He said the two entities have agreed that each time they want to have political meetings they will be notifying the Police on such developments.
He says Mr. Hichilema was not charged with any offence after the interrogation which lasted for an hour and half.
