Police fail to charge Nevers Mumba as Saki describes move as “fishing expedition”

Police Monday morning could not formally charge former envoy to Canada Nevers Mumba over financial impropriety at the Zambian mission.

And Mumbas lawyer Sakwiba Sikota described the move by the state to summon his client as a fishing expedition.

Mumba arrived at the police headquarters at approximately 10:10 hours in the company of his lawyers sakwiba sikota and Sunday Nkonde.

Addressing journalists shortly after the interrogation, Sakwiba Sikota said the state had failed to formally charge Mumba of any financial irregularities.

Sakwiba said the state had  failed to justify their accusations regarding his client.

“We have come here on the request of the state, after so much talk and publicity of dirty hands boomeranging against Dr. Mumba , the police have told us that they are not ready and they are still looking for allegations to level against my client.” Sikota said.

And addressing scores of MMD cadres outside the police premises Mumba said it is high time political intimidation in the name of corruption came to an end.
