Police fail to question HH due to volatile situation, but assault him, tear-gas journalists

Near-riots broke out in Lusaka Thursday morning as police tried to question opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

Journalists and Hichilema himself were tear-gassed by overzealous police officers. Hichilema later revealed that he was physically assaulted by police.

15 people are said to have been injured.

The police summoned Hichilema in the on-going crackdown by the PF regime against opposition leaders, priests and union leaders.

Police had to fire teagars to disperse supporters of the opposition leader who turned out in huge numbers to accompany their leader to the police station.

Opposition supportes were just gathering outside the police station when the police decided to start firing tear-gas.

A Radio Phoenix Journalist was heard crying loudly on radio at 13 hours while explaining the trauma she suffered at the hands of the police.

Fearing the worst, police let Hichilema go but said will call him again,
