Police failure to probe thieving NGOs irk Donors

The United Kingdom Charity, has bemoaned the failure by the Zambia Police to conclude investigations into the fraud of donor resources by SACCORD, defunct YALI and FODEP despite the matter having been reported.
A diplomatic source expressed concern as to how the now PF inclined NGOs were being sheilded from facing the law.
The three organisations are reported to have abuse and misappropriated donor funds to the tune of $1.9 million meant for monitoring of the 2016 general elections.
This involved three civil society Organizations in Zambia namely the Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP), the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), and the Southern Centre for Constructive Resolution of Dispute (SACCORD).

The $1.9 million believed to have been misappropriated is part of the $3.5 million grant given to the three CSOs from UKaid through the British Council under the project dubbed “Zambia Accountability Project”(ZAP) a project meant to enhance transparency, free and fair 2016 general elections.
“We have been following up on the matter but since some of the organisations are now aligned, it seems the police are not doing anything,” said the source .
