Police, intelligence officers disrupt Oasis forum constitution meeting in Kabwe

Uncompromising officers from the special branch and police yesterday stormed a church building and disrupted a meeting called by the Oasis forum to press the PF government to release the final draft constitution but the organization said they will not be silenced by the state in the demand for a people driven constitution.
Police stormed St. Columbus Church ordered that the meeting ends but by the time they arrived at the scene, most of the business had been done. The state security officers said that they needed to be notified in order to provide protection to the gathering but meeting convenor Beatrice Grillo said they did not need to notify the police whenever they gathered for such an important occasion and let alone in a church building.

Grillo who is also NGOCC chairperson condemned the state’s action and warned that Zambians would not allow President Sata to behave like a father who promises his children food but fails and when reminded gets annoyed.

Last year PF sponsored thugs attacked worshippers at BIGOCA church in Africa after they gathered to peacefully protest against government’s removal of subsidies and a week later PF Matero MP Miles Sampa apologized and made a monetary ‘donation’ to the church.
