Police killed two children in Solwezi, says MP

United Party for National Development (UPND) Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu has told Parliament that the PF police killed two children after they teargased a UPND rally in Solwezi West Wednesday.

Rising on a point of order Thursday afternoon over the use of guns during by-elections, Mwiimbu charged that the police disrupted the UPND rally despite the party having complied with all requirements but the police discharged teargas and as a result two children have died of teargas side effects.

Mwiimbu lamented that a lot of lives have been lost during by-elections since the PF came to power adding that the despicable acts of the police cannot be condoned.

He reminded the House that a motion had been brought to the House by Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo to ban the use of guns during by-elections but the motion was defeated by the PF.

Mwiimbu said so many reports of use of fire arms in Solwezi and Lubansenshi had been received but the culprits have been left scot-free by the police.

He has accused the PF leadership of tolerating the use of fire arms by their cadres.

In passing his ruling, Speaker of the House Dr Matibini directed the Minister of Home Affairs to present a detailed report next week on what he called ‘grave’ issues raised by Hon Mwiimbu.
