The Drug Enforcement Commission(DEC) has arrested the wife of former Defence Minister in the Chiluba regime Ben Mwila commonly called B.Y for issuing cheques on an insufficiently funded account and money laundering. Margaret Mwila, 50, has been arrested along with Hartwell Sikaundi, 67, a Finance Manager at Wade Adams Piling and Foundations Zambia Limited .
DEC Public Relations Officer Samuel Silomba disclosed that Margaret Kakungu Lombe Mwila aged 50, of Plot 9721 Chudleigh Lusaka, has been arrested and jointly charged with Mr Hartwell Chazya Sikaundi, 67, the Finance manager of Flat Number 4 Impala Court Northmead Lusaka. The two have been arrested for allegedly issuing two cheques on an insufficiently funded account contrary to Section 33 (i) of the National Payment Systems Act No. 1 of 2007.
Silomba said the duo , in their capacities as Director and Finance Manager respectively of Wade Adams Piling and Foundations Zambia Limited, are alleged to have willfully, dishonestly and with intent to defraud issued two cheques amounting to K70 million on an insufficiently funded account.
He said the cheques were issued as payments for two motor vehicles, a Toyota Nadia and a Nissan Datsun Pickup from Tokyo Vehicles Limited. Mrs Mwila and her co-accused Sikaundi have been remanded in police polcustody and will appear in court soon.
Just before elections last year, Ben Mwila has told the nation that allowing Patriotic Front President to become republican president will be allowing Zambia to experience civil war. Mr Mwila who is also National Democratic Focus president alleges that Zambians will be making a grave mistake by voting for Mr Sata to be republican president saying he will be abrogating the constitution with impunity which is not in the best interest of the Zambian people. He said Mr Sata is not fit to lead the country adding that he is only fit to lead Patriotic Front.
