Police not yet paid for April

Some Police Officers in the Zambia Police Service have not yet received their April, 2010 salaries.
Commissioner of Police Graphael Musamba has described the situation as unfortunate saying the delay has been due to technical hitches beyond police control.

And the police high command says all police officers will receive their mealie meal allowances in arrears this month as part of their salary package.

Mr. Musamba says police officers will receive the first two months meal allowances in arrears this
month while the remaining two months will be paid by June, 2010 month end.

Mr. Musamba was speaking in a statement read on his behalf by Zambia Police Service Spokesperson Bonny Kapeso.

And in Kitwe Police officers have appealed to President Rupiah Banda to direct the immediate payment of salaries which have been delayed for two months.

Officers at Kamfinsa and other stations, who preferred to be anonymous, warned that corruption will not end if salaries continue delaying adding that they should be allowed to form a union.

But Kamfinsa Member of Parliament, Mike Nyirenda, has appealed to all police officers to remain calm stating that he has been reliably informed that salaries will soon be paid.

In a walk- in- interview with Muvi TV News in Kitwe, Mr. Nyirenda has however condemned sentiments that corruption would not end if the salaries continue delaying.
