Police officers arrested for bribery

The Drug Enforcement Commission of Zambia (DEC) has arrested one of its senior officers and and two Zambia Police officers for soliciting bribes from identified members of the public.

Malizhani Tembo, a SeniorDEC investigations Officer based at the provincial office in Lusaka was arrested together with Zambia Police Detective Inspector Nathan Tembo who is the Officer-in-Charge  of Ridgeway Police Post. The third police officer arrested has named by DEC spokesperson John Nyawali as Detective Sergeant Spider Chola.

The three police officers were arrested from Ridgeway Police Post after receiving two million kwacha as an inducement to illegally drop the charges against one of the suspects.

The money was given to Mr. Tembo and his accomplices from the office of the Officer –in-Charge in order to release the suspect who had been detained at the Police post after he was found with some suspected cocaine.

The three have been surrendered to the Anti- Corruption Commission for prosecution.

And DEC has arrested three employees of a private firm J.K. Musonda for money laundering activities involving K125 million.

Davis Shamatanga, a consultant was arrested together with Mercy Mutelo an accountant and Betty Matiya an Accounts Clerk after obtaining K125 million from Zambia National Building Society on false pretences.

The three forged some documents and pay slips belonging to some of their workmates to illegally obtain the money. 

three employees of J.K. Musonda and company have been arrested for money laundering activities involving K125 million.

This is according to DEC public Rrelations Manager John Nyawali.
