There are just about 20 000 police officers in Zambia. But their working conditions are pathetic and inhuman, except for those in top command.
They are made to guard and protect politicians and government officials who leave luxurious lives. In the current PF regime like its predecessor the MMD, ministers, MPs, Permanent secretaries and departmental directors are paid huge allowances and are entitled to expensive cars.
But for public officers such as the police and nurses who toil to keep the country going, life is intolerable. Their living conditions are worse than those of refugees.
