Police pursue PF MP over Kitwe riots

Home Affairs Minister Lameck Mangani says police are investigating Opposition Patriotic Front (PF) Nkana Member of Parliament Mwenya Musenge for allegedly inciting people to riot.

Yesterday some Kitwe residents resorted to riotous behavior after word went round that a man in his late twenties had died after being subjected to beatings by  Zambia National Marketeers Association (ZANAMA) neighborhood watch personnel.
Mangani told journalists in Lusaka that  government is concerned that some politicians seem to be championing wrong causes by inciting people to riot.
He said his ministry is particularly concerned that whenever there is a disturbance in Kitwe the name of Musenge is always coming out prominently.
Mangani said police are currently investigating the matter and that the nation will soon be briefed on the outcome of the investigations.
Mangani revelesad that so far a number of people have been picked up ‘to help police with investigations.’

He said  politicians should help unite the country instead of inciting people to riot.

Mangani said it is regrettable that a person died in Kitwe and  that police are investigating the matter.
