Police say have arrested 3 UPND cadres in Kasama

Police in Kasama say they have arrested three suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres for being found in possession of offensive weapons. But the police have not arrested PF cadres who tried to murder Mrs Maureen Mwanawasa, Mrs Mutale Nalumango, MPs Felix Mutati and Patrick Mucheleka and inn Shiwangandu last week.
Northern Province Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga said the trio was on Sunday found in possession of dangerous weapons.
“The trio was found in possession of four machetes, one military type knife and one deformed iron bar which is about five centimetres long,” Ms Katanga said.
She said the three arrested include Mike Sitali, 27, of House No B4, Kanyama in Lusaka, Levy Simukoko, 31, of House No 13/39 Lusaka West and Dickson Sakala, 28, of House No 597,Chunga, Lusaka.
She said police impounded the vehicle registration number SIBO 3 which had stickers for UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.
Ms Katanga warned political leaders to tame their cadres to avoid anarchy.
“This can degenerate into anarchy. We are also appealing to members of the public with information of people who are moving around with offensive weapons, with pangas, to report to police,” she said.
The trio will appear in court soon.
