Police on Wednesday afternoon fired tear gas canisters to disperse scores of youths who protested for being left out of the Zambia army recruitment at the first infantry brigade in Lusaka’s Emmasdale area.
This was after the youths blocked Katimamulilo road with different objects forcing motorists to use alternative routes.
The youths who also lit fire on the road scampered in surrounding townships after police arrived at the scene to restore law and order.
Calm has returned at the military recruitment centre as police in riot gear keep vigil of the situation.
And some youths told ZNBC news that they have been angered by the turn of events and accused the army personnel of recruiting only their relatives
