Heavily armed Police yesterday stormed Chilombwa basic school grounds where UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema was addressing a rally and threatened to disrupt it because of the alleged assault of some PF cadres by suspected UPND cadres.
The team led by an overzealous superintendent Mukuka who claimed to be officer in charge at Kaoma police station came looking for the UPND cadres but was met by party chairman for security Captain Cosmasa Moono and campaign manager who is also Lukulu West MP Misheck Mitelo who both denied their cadres’ participation in the activities.
Mukuka then threatened that from there onwards he was going to revoke the permits for all UPND meetings in the area. However senior police officers from Lusaka have told the Watchdog that Mukuka’s report and suggestion was rubbished and ordered to leave the party’s activities to go on.
The PF infighting has been extended to Mangango, some PF members belonging to other factions led by Mulenga Sata, Chishimba Kambwili and GBM are not participating in the campaigns because they view the Mangango candidate as being a pro Kabimba MP. An insider said campaigning for PF candidate Rogers Lingweshi meant strengthening Kabimba’s ambitions to succeed President Michael Sata.
Meanwhile secretary general Wynter Kabimba and ceremonial vice president Guy Scott are expected in the area on Thursday while MMD’s Nevers Mumba is expected to have a rally on Monday, 18th August. Voting takes place on 19th August.
