Police told to surround KCM mine as wrangle deepens

Government has ordered police to immediately start manning the gates to Konkola Copper Mines -KCM premises on the Copperbelt.

And Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe has ordered the mining firm to stop dealing in scrap metal.

The minister made the remarks in Chingola when miners led by their union representatives presented a petition demanding the immediate departure of Vendata Resources, the owners of KCM.

Zambia’s government has already filed notification of plans to take over KCM as the country’s currency continues to nosedive, now reaching a 3 1/2-year low.
