The Zambia police has maintained that it will not rescind its decision to stop its officers from marrying foreigners.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has stressed that the police has not abrogated the constitution as charged by the Law Association of Zambia(LAZ).
Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja issued a memo last week stopping all police officers from marrying foreigners and directed that those already married to foreigners must declare their spouses immediately.
But LAZ described the directive by Kanganja as unconstitutional and charged that it must be reversed.
Katongo claimed that the police has not violated Article 23 of the Bill of Rights which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, sex, tribe, place of origin, marital status, colour or creed.
She claimed that Article 23 has exceptions and that there was nothing wrong with the police standing order.
