A Kabwe policeman of Kasanda police station last week allegedly raped a woman who was detained in custody for idling and loitering, but police are trying to shield the officer from prosecution.
Inspector Joseph Lungu who is also young brother to outgoing central province police commissioner Standwel Lungu had forced sexual intercourse with a named female detainee of Natuseko compound in Kabwe, the woman was in police cells for loitering.
Lungu tricked the woman on Friday night that he wanted to release her on Friday night but instead had sex with her and later threw her back into the police cells after she got upset and told him that she would report him to higher authorities.
But some police officers have told the Watchdog that the police command wants to trash the matter and have destroyed the medical report with which she was issued, Lungu has since gone on leave.
