Acting president Edgar Lungu has reversed the unilateral decision of banning the exportation of maize announced by his junior Agriculture Minister Bob Sichinga citing contractual obligations.
In a clear lack of coordination in the PF cabinet that never meets for cabinet meetings, Sichinga last week announced that the PF government had banned maize exports until the country was certain of the amount of grain available in the country.
But it has now emerged that Mr. Sichinga did not consult his colleagues who are currently involved in the smuggling of maize to other countries where they make big cash.
Mr. Lungu has this afternoon ordered that maize exports will continue because of the already existing contracts with other countries facing hunger.
There has been a general increase on the price of mealie meal attributed to maize exports by the PF government.
