Property destroyed in Kitwe inferno

Property worth millions of Kwacha has been destroyed in an inferno that gutted various buildings and business entities in Kitwe Centre town

Some shops opposite Kitwe town main post office such as Carnival Furniture and probably Barclays Bank could have been affected by the inferno.

Sources say there are also lots of small shops in between the bank and the furniture store some doing cooking though there could have been nobody in the shops as the fire started around 06:00 hours.

It took fire fighting equipment from CEC and Mopani mines to quench the fire as the Kitwe City Council fire brigade arrived on the scene without any water.

But most of the buildings have wooden particle partitioning boards of pine trees.

It is so far no clear what caused the fire and the extent of the damage.
