Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Executive Director Rev Pukuta Mwanza has backed attempts by the PF government to withdraw Zambia’s membership from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Rev Mwanza claims that the ICC has not been fair to African leaders that have been indicted or summoned by the ICC.
President Edgar Lungu has joined the bandwagon of African leaders that are trying to withdraw their country’s memberships from the ICC claiming that the court was only targeting Africans.
Some of the people indicted by the ICC, who Rev Pukuta claims were unfairly treated include Sudanese leader Omar al-Bashir who is wanted by the ICC for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the Darfur region of Sudan, former Ivory Coast President Gbagbo and his wife Simone Gbagbo charged with war crimes arising from the post election violence after Gbagbo refused to hand over power despite losing elections.
Others are Jean –Piere Bemba from Congo DR charged with war crimes committed by his militia which intervened in the Central African Republic and the notorious Ugandan rebel leader Joseph Koni who has committed serious acts of war crimes in Uganda, Central African Republic and Congo DR.
