Workers at the government owned Mulungushi International Conference Centre – MICC have boycotted work demanding the removal of the General manager Chishimba Kabwe who they have accused of sexually abusing and harassing the female workers. The workers are also demanding an improved mode of payment of their service charges.
According to the irate workers, Kabwe has been sexually fondling and having sexual affairs from some female workers and the matter was long reported to the labour office. He has been using sexual advancement to the workers to gain his favours and those that refuse his advancements are threatened with dismissals while others give in.
They charged that the abuse has gotten out of hand as Kabwe does not mind whether his prey are married or single and fear that some of them have began having marital problems due to the illicit behaviour of the General manager. Kabwe has been manager at Mulungushi since 2010 after reportedly having been fired at Taj Pamodi hotel for similar sexual harassment offences.
Other than the sexual harassments the company has also not been paying service charges to the workers and this prompted the workers to report them to the Hotel, Cartering and Allied Workers’ Union of Zambia whose leadership has demanded that the workers’ concerns be addressed immediately to avert problems due to the work stoppage.
