RB accepts Justice Mumba resignation as KPMG contract disappears

President Rupiah Banda has accepted the resignation of Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Justice Florence Mumba.
And the KPMG contract at the centre of the confusion at ECZ has disappeared, the Watchdog has been told.
According to president Banda’s mouth-piece Dickson Jere, the president has “reluctantly” accepted Justice Mamba’s departure.
Justice Mumba resigned Thursday as Chairperson of the ECZ through a letter she sent to President Banda following allegations of corruption against her and other commissioners.
President Banda in his letter of reply to Justice Mumba, thanked her for the work she did while at ECZ.
“I would like to thank you most sincerely for the work that you did while at the ECZ. Let me take this opportunity to specifically commend the manner in which you successfully superintended over the 2008 Presidential Election which came at short notice,” President Banda said. A lot of people believe that the 2008 elections that brought Banda in power were fraudulent and that they were won by Michael Sata.
On the disappearance of the K1billion worth KPMG contract which Justice Mumba and other commissioners entered into corruptly, sources say it vanished on Tuesday.
ECZ insiders say Florence Mumba asked for the contract on Tuesday and when she was given, she went into an hour long meeting with fellow commissioners Minerva Tembo and Justice Esau Chulu and a lawyer from a named media house.
The contract was not returned to its file, say highly placed sources.
