President Rupiah Banda has advised the ministry of Information and Broadcasting to grant Muvi TV a licence to broadcast to the entire country.
Muvi TV is a Lusaka based privately owned Television station. Its coverage has had been restricted to Lusaka district. It has some activities in Kitwe as well.
Sources have told the Watchdog that the committee on broadcasting licences sat on Friday, December, 11, 2009 and approved Muvi’s application to cover the whole country.
Sources further told the Watchdog that president Banda personally intervened and told the ministry he sees no reason to restrict coverage by private players who are able and willing to go nationwide.
The president, according to sources at the ministry, also said that even radio stations that want to cover the whole country should be granted relevant license.
