President Rupiah Banda has conveyed what he calls heartfelt condolences to Patriotic Front (PF) leader Mr Michael Sata on the deaths of PF party members in a road accident at Kisasa, Solwezi on Thursday.
President Banda said in a letter of condolences that he was saddened to learn about the accident in which a truck careened off the road, claiming five lies on the spot.
“Life is the most important gift we share in common; therefore any loss, regardless of who has died, is painful. This is the last thing we want to see happening in our country. Please receive my sincere condolences and best wishes towards the PF membership and the bereaved families.”
He added: “I want to see our traditional friendly and hospitable spirit continuing beyond political boundaries. Whenever there is a tragedy such as this, let us as Zambian brothers and sisters stand together and help strengthen one another.”
President Banda, while acknowledging that investigations should be carried out to establish the root causes of the tragedy, has also urged motorists and all passenger and cargo transport operators to see to it that their vehicles were in good condition to avoid road accidents. He also appealed to motorists to ensure that they avoided alcohol before or while driving.
